Another painting

This is a painting that I finished last week.  I love all of the imperfections.

Thought of the day

"Many of the most challenging painters working today—Dana Schutz, Daniel Dove, Lisa Sanditz, and Tom McGrath, for example—are disparately engaged with one central (albeit multifaceted) question: What is at stake in negating intelligible mimetic imagery with passages of pure facture and, inversely, in undermining the autonomy of materials and process with overt images? And how can mining this dialectic through the act of painting help illuminate and analyze the human and material conditions of contemporary life? " -Christopher Bedford in Art Forum

These are detail shots of a painting I started last week.  The windows on this building took some planning since it was a process of painting, then covering with tape, and then repeating. So I had no idea what it really looked like until all of the tape is taken off.  I find it more exciting that way and the process allows for more happy accidents.

I'm going to be published!

I was chosen from over 1000 applicants to be part of the catalog New American Paintings.  I spent the last two weeks trying to make sure everything was ready for it.  Look for me in issue #89.

New painting

I just finished a new painting.  It is part of my city as water park series.  I can't wait until all ten are done!

Lots of stripes

This is a close up of my current in progress painting of a Utopian city as water park.  All of the buildings are appropriated images from the internet, abstracted, and then collaged together in a strange illustrative landscape.  The part I've become most excited about is how all of the elements exploit the flatness of the surface and everything kinda stays in it's own area which also refers back to the collage idea.

Painting for my friend Kristy

I completed the painting for my friend Kristy.  I wanted to do something that would match her warm, happy personality.
